Recycle Clothing in Chicagoland

There is a way you can make good use of your old clothing by donating it to Simple Recycling, a for profit recycler that is committed to offering residents the most simple and easy way to keep usable materials out of landfills. If you prefer to donate to a non-profit, check out DonateStuff.com.

The primary focus of Simple Recycling is clothing, but they also take small usable household items such as shoes, jewelry, purses, hats, toys, blankets, electronics, tools, silverware, dishes, pots/pans, and backpacks.

If you are in their pick up area in Chicagoland, simply go to their website, signup for free and schedule a day when they will come out and pick up your stuff. Simply put it in a bag by your front door where they will pick it up. They will collect your stuff on the pick up day they give you between 7:30 am and 5 pm.

Their primary focus is clothing. High quality clothing is sold to thrift stores. Mid-level quality clothing is exported to international markets and unusable clothing is processed into raw materials.

It’s said that the average person throws away 68lbs of clothing a year. Clothing and housewares account for abut 10% of the municipal waste stream. 85% of clothing currently does not get recycled or donated, but ends up in landfills.
