Meditation through movement
A Cultural Arts Program that Integrates Body and Mind
Hula is described by the great Hula master Maiki Aiu Lake as, “The art of Hawaiian dance that expresses all we see, hear, feel, taste and touch.” Hula, like Zen, is Life! It is the dance and heartbeat of the Hawaiian people.
The practice of hula includes mindful awareness of body, arms, hands and feet placement as you dance to tell a story. Hula seeks to minimize the distance between the physical and spiritual. It includes values of openness and generosity of heart/mind, and clarity or wisdom that comes when body, mind and heart are one.
Its movement helps to release stress and trauma in the body. It’s paired with gentle Hawaiian music that helps your body produce healing endorphins.
