Writing Workshop – 6 week course

Have you been working on a book or writing project for years? Have you used vacation time “to write” only to not write at all? Have you been describing the same book project for years but no further along than you were last year? Have you been thinking about a book or writing project and not started it? Welcome to Our World! We may have a book or writing project inside of us that we want to exist – and yet, it doesn’t make it from head to hands to readers. Why is that? Can we change that? In this 6 week gathering of writers, we will talk about our experiences as blocked writers and then work together on creating habits and routines that get us a little closer to a finished project.

The course begin with a two hour in-person session to meet, write, and identify the challenges we hope to overcome (online option also available). Then for the next 4 weeks we will meet online for one hour to write and share our writing and experiences. The final meeting is two hours and meets in-person with an online option.

Sat., March 22, 2025, 2:00–4:00 pm (in-person & online)

Who’s Your Facilitator?
Kunaka (pronounced coo-na-ca) (she/her) is a writer who lives in Crystal Lake, Illinois. She’s studied spiritual practices from teachers in various traditions including Korean Zen Buddhism, Quakerism, clairvoyance, and in Eckart Tolle’s School of Awakening. At the same time, she learned writing craft from the poet Holly Wren Spaulding and Nadine Johnston at StoryStudio. As great as all these teachers were, however, what really taught her were the periodic bouts of blocked writing time that motivated her to integrate her contemplative training from every background imaginable. With these experiences, Kunaka learned that any writing or creative endeavor is supported with practices that also calm the heart and stabilize the mind. She’s recently completed a writers residency at Hedgebrook, a community for women writers on Whidbey Island, WA and will be a writer-in-residence at Ragdale in Dec. 2025. Her previous publications were in academic journals on topics related to medieval literature.
